Hand turned and ebonized vase crafted from walnut and finished with an eco-friendly matte oil. This vase is a solid piece and for dried flowers only, it is not watertight.

Ebonizing is the process of darkening wood with a solution of steel wool and vinegar. When applied it reacts with the tannins in the wood and creates a dark and rick black color. Normally pieces are completely ebonized and sanded smooth, but I was interested in how ceramic glazing techniques could be applied to wood. The big difference between ceramic & wood though, is that wood bleeds. Each piece is one-of-a-kind with every line being hand applied and the color & design varying based on the wood grain.
